FPT Corporation (HOSE: FPT) is seeking ways to join the domestic telecom industry via investing in other telecom firms, perhaps the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and S-fone, said Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of FPT's director board.


Although the group has stopped the plan of investing in EVN Telecom, FPT still pursues its intention of joining the Vietnam's telecom market.
There are many directions being opened to FPT and so, FPT would continue to choose to cooperate with other telecom companies, he told the Vietnam News Agency.
When asked when FPT will officially join the telecom sector, Binh said his group is still waiting for suitable opportunities and the most important thing is other telecom firms are willing to sell their stakes.
In case FPT cannot buy stake into other telecom firms, FPT will develop its own Long Term Evolution (4G) network which has been licensed by the Ministry of Information and Communications.
But, Binh said, FPT's investment in telecommunications will have to develop in a new direction.
The head of FPT also said his group need to make a difference in the current telecom market, and it is necessary to develop in 3G segment. The oppotunities 3G will be very bright in the near future, he said.
After the first four months of 2011, FPT Group (coded FPT) reported gaining over VND661 billion in pre-tax profit, increasing by 9 percent year-on-year, and fulfilling 116.9 percent of the targeted plan.
In details, the group has recently released to reach accumulative revenue in the first four months of VND6.917 trillion, completing 109.1 percent of the annual targeted plan, and up 17.4 percent year-on-year.
The pre-tax profit was posted at VND661 billion, equivalent to EPS of VND1,931.
